THE
RAILROAD MUSEUM of VIRGINIA |
The Railroad Museum of Virginia is in Portsmouth, VA, just south of the Olde Towne area, and opened in 2012. At the time of visiting there are no buildings to the museum, just a steam locomotive and several carriages sitting on a track alongside a newly-constructed station. There are long term plans to develop the station and have the museum within. Meanwhile, there are exhibits and photographs inside the two 1928 Norfolk and Western mail cars, which currently form the museum. For more information about the museum, see their website. These photographs were taken in November 2013.

Steam Locomotive 1134, a 4-8-0, built 1910. The locomotive was discovered in Roanoke Virginia, in the back of a scrap yard after fifty years or more gathering rust. Arrangements were made to purchase the locomotive, and North Fork Inc. was employed to perform the restoration of the dilapidated engine. They completed the cosmetic restoration and delivered loco No.1134 to its present site. Cranes were employed to lift the engine and tender on to the tracks of the Railroad Museum
